weekend happenings

Happy Monday!  We had a fantastic weekend visiting with my parents in the mountains.  For those of you who have never experienced a North Carolina fall weekend in the mountains, it is worth the trip sometime.  We go to Cashiers, NC, a small town between Brevard and Highlands in Western North Carolina.

One of the main highlights of the weekend was seeing the fall leaves changing and visiting the pumpkin patch.  Cashiers has a great Farmer's Market that features fabulous meats and fresh vegetables (both featured below in our home-cooked meal)

Mac at Mac's View- where Josh and I got engaged

Another highlight of Cashiers is the unbelievable array of antique shops.  There are at least twenty GOOD antique/interior decorating shops in Cashiers- a small town with literally two stop lights.  A few of my favorite finds of the weekend:
Speckled Lamp
A great hostess gift- robin's egg soap.
Magnolia Leaf Wreath...this would be a great DIY if I were more crafty...
Blue and White
Of course, no weekend away would be complete without yummy treats, and we were lucky enough to have an even better excuse for treats- my sweet momma's birthday!  In addition to a great night in on Saturday night to celebrate, we also had an amazing dinner at Gamekeeper's Tavern (wonderful amaretto sours- my favorite), and a great lunch at the new Wild Thyme location in Highlands.

Hummingbird Bundt Cake compliments of Southern Living Fall Baking- sorry for the iphone photo- this was the only chance I had to take a picture before it got devoured!

And last, but certainly not least, my GATORS are ranked at the NUMBER 2 spot in the first BCS poll!  While BCS has lots of critics, I can't say I am complaining right now!  Go Gators!!!

The weekend reminded me that fall is here and will be replaced by snow and much colder weather soon.  As a Florida girl, it is time to cherish the last bits of warm weather.  As many signs in Cashiers said, "Happy Fall Y'all!"

xo,

  1. Awesome weekend with two of my favorite people! The food was fantastic, the shopping and scenery spectacular but the company was the best!
Great idea for hostess gifts and the stretching band really does work!
