thursday's thoughts: couches

via
What a sound piece of advice for a Thursday morning!  While I agree with the sentiment, I have to stop myself (often) from falling into the trap of just trying to get things "finished" around the house.  Really we have a long way to go on the house, but I am so thankful for lots of years ahead to make this house the home we really want.

While some major projects are on the back burner for now, I am trying hard to get the living room fairly furnished before Christmas rolls around.  This will be our first Christmas morning in our own house after 6 years of marriage, and I cannot wait to wake up and see our tree and stockings before bouncing between family celebrations.

We're on a tight budget for decorating, so getting the room into shape means being creative.  There are some pieces that will definitely be more of an investment, but I am trying to become a DIY queen with pillows, curtains, and this bench makeover from Becky's blog.  (Check back for posts on these projects...can't promise success, but I am definitely going to try!)  In the meantime, we are on the hunt for a couch.  I know we want a white couch, and I love the look of tufted upholstery and nailhead, but I think it might be more reasonable to get slipcovered white pieces.

I should mention that we have a slipcovered couch in the family room that definitely gets more day to day use.  Any great options out there that combine more of the pretty details with slipcovers?  Or should we just bite the bullet and invest in scotch guard?  Decisions, decisions...

wedding registry: summer entertaining

Good Morning!  Summer is around the corner, and every bride needs a few staples on her registry for entertaining outdoors on a warm night.  Here are a few of my favorite picks:

Tear Off Napkins
perfect for outdoor entertaining and much cuter than a paper towel.  Throw them in the wash when you are done and use them again and again!

Catch-All Tray
There is nothing worse than trips in and out of the house when you are trying to relax with guests.  Make sure to include a large catch all tray to make carrying all of your entertaining essentials easier.

Mason Jar Mugs:
Perfect for icy lemonade at your next garden party or luncheon.

Drink Dispensers
A fun way to let guests serve themselves. The only hard part is deciding what to serve...

Chalkboard Drink Dispenser Labels
A cute way to make sure no one gets spiked lemonade instead of regular.  Throw them in a drawer with some chalk when you are done and re-use them again and again!

Galvanized Steel Bucket
The best way to keep drinks cold!  Register for at least two - one for alcoholic beverages and one for waters, soda, etc. to make your entertaining a little easier.

wedding registry: bath towels

Good Morning!  Today we move from the more glamorous wedding registry items (kitchen tool what?!) to something a little less flashy but equally as important- bath towels.

While bath towels might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of wedding registries, they are a very important part of your married home.  You (and your significant other) will use them everyday, guests in your home will use them, and it's good to have a little stockpile for those weeks when the laundry gets behind.

I can safely say that we have had our share of bath towels in our five + years of marriage.  Though it took me a few years, I have finally found my absolute favorite...from Target no less.  The Fieldcrest Luxury line at Target is plush, dries quickly, and looks great in almost any style of bathroom.  I prefer the striped "accent" towel, but they also have solid options as well.

No matter which towels you choose, make sure to hang them in a place where they can dry completely after each use.  This will make them last longer and prevent them from getting a musty smell.  Also, it's a good idea to replace your bath towels every few years to make sure they are fresh and remain absorbent.
