friday finds: haymarket designs

towels by haymarket designs
Happy Friday AND first day of summer!  In honor of the official first day of summer, I'm sharing these adorable beach towels from Haymarket Designs.  There are tons of choices for patterns, monograms and colors that you can customize.  (Say goodbye to arguments over who the dry towel belong to...)  I think these would be perfect graduation gifts, bridesmaids gifts, or hostess gifts.  This might also be the perfect way to have a little ikat in my life without going too crazy...

friday finds: lily and laura bracelets

Hello Friends!  Just a very quick post today to share one of my favorite new finds: Lily and Laura Bracelets.  My sister introduced me to these a few weeks ago and we quickly snapped up more than I care to admit.  They are perfect for stacking together or even wearing individually.

In addition to being super cute, the bracelets have a social benefit too.  The company's business practice is to improve the quality of life of artisans in Nepal by paying more than fair trade wages.  No need to feel guilty buying lots of these beauties...snap a few up today to add to your stack!

friday finds: white jeans

Hello again!  We have officially moved to Florida, and we are loving getting caught up with family and friends here.  It has been a crazy time of transition (with more to come as we await our move into our own house in a few weeks) but we are doing well.

One of my favorite things about living in Florida (well, maybe favorite is an exaggeration, but something I am very excited about) is that wearing white pants outside of the traditional "Memorial Day to Labor Day" timeframe is completely acceptable.  The climate here allows for breaking the traditional rules, so white jeans are in heavy rotation through most of the spring and summer.  Whether you are in the Florida heat and humidity or you are anxiously awaiting Memorial Day to bust out your white skinnies, here are a few of my favorite pairs of white jeans for your shopping inspiration.

jcrew toothpick

jcrew matchstick
JCrew makes some of my absolute FAVORITE white jeans.  I usually prefer the matchstick because they are a little less form fitting than the toothpick but they are still fitted enough to look polished.  I also love the cropped look...remember, showing your ankle makes your legs look longer.  I literally live in mine and I am considering getting an extra pair for back up.
marrakesh flare
I love a flared white jean with wedges or open toed sandals for summer nights.  This is my classic and "go to" look for dinners out or times when I want to look pulled together in the summer heat.  Add a cute top and a pop of bright nail polish on your toes and you are set.

james jeans straight leg
Finally, the straight leg jean.  I think this is a classic style that everyone should have in their closet.  I generally keep straight leg cuts longer to wear with heels (a straight leg with flats looks a little frumpy on me) but you could go either way.  This is a jean that will endure as different cuts and trends come and go.  Find a pair you love and be extra careful about ketchup at your memorial day BBQ!

friday finds: maxi dresses

Happy Friday!  I have officially completed my LAST day of school...ever!  What a crazy feeling.  Just a quick collage of our unofficial last day celebrations.  Mimosas and petit fours with wonderful friends. MUCH more celebrating to come!
LOVE to you all: Whitney, Virginia, KK, Kelsey and Heather and Lauren (not pictured, but we will remedy that later!)
The end of school always makes me dream of summertime, pools, cold drinks, and clothes that keep me from melting in the Florida humidity.  Enter the maxi dress.  While I can't claim to own too many maxi dresses, I'm thinking some of these just might need to be mine.  Now the trouble is in picking just one...

::  SOLIDS  ::
I love these solid options!  These would be great to grab with your favorite flats and simple jewelry for day, or a more bold necklace for night.

::  PATTERNS  ::
I am swooning over these options...literally no words.  If you twisted my arm and made me choose, I think it would be the first "watercolor" option.  BUT, the Mara Hoffman pattern (middle) is so chic and bold that I can hardly stand it.

::  STRIPES  ::
You all know I love a good stripe and how GREAT are these options?!  I am loving the short sleeve green and the cute backs on the ella moss and black and white stripes.  I have at least 10 striped shirts in my life so it seems perfectly reasonable that all three of these dresses should be in my life as well, no?!

:: AND ONE JUST FOR FUN ::
This Jenni Kayne dress is not necessarily one to wear with sandals poolside (at least not on my budget), but I do love it and I had to share it here.  Pink on pink and perfectly tailored!

Do you have a favorite maxi dress for the spring/summer?

friday finds: trader joe's favorites

Happy Friday!  If you are anything like I used to be, you might avoid Trader Joe's because it is always packed.  I literally used to avoid going at all costs because I couldn't maneuver my cart and I couldn't get through the crowds to actually see the items available to buy.   In short, I was completely overwhelmed by the store.

I can't do anything about the crowds that flock there on Sunday afternoons, but I can help by sharing some of my favorite products with you.  Hopefully this will help you manage those crowds effectively and make the experience a little more pleasant.  If all else fails, just remind yourself: all those people wouldn't be there if they weren't getting something great... patience and persistence pays off!

:: Hummus ::
Hands down, this is my favorite TJ's purchase.  While tahini in regular hummus provides some "good fats," the lack of tahini in this hummus makes it light and fluffy.  It is always in our fridge (usually with an extra backup companion) and it is the perfect spread for sandwiches or  dip for crackers or veggies.

:: Edamame Hummus ::
When I want something a little "fancier" than traditional hummus, I grab this edamame hummus.  It's the perfect savory dip for a party, and pairs well with chips, crackers, or veggies.

:: Savory Mini Crackers ::
This is the other item I buy in bulk at Trader Joe's.  These are the perfect little cracker for my hummus, but they are also great by themselves for snacking.  I have had lots of late classes this semester, and I make sure I always have a snack bag of these crackers with me to munch on when my stomach starts to growl.  (My classmates appreciate that they are small, quiet, and don't take up valuable desk space!)

:: Dark Chocolate Bar ::
When I want a sweet fix at the end of the night, I grab a square...or two... of one of these dark chocolate bars.  I love the toffee with walnuts and pecans variety, but there are tons of options to choose from.  (I have my eye on a dark chocolate sea salt variety for next time.)  Just as a heads up, these are at the check out "end caps" so you can grab them while you are waiting in line!

:: Buttermilk Pancake and All Purpose Baking Mix ::
I blogged about this mix a few weeks ago when I shared a recipe for fruit scones.  I must admit I bought this box with the intention of making pancakes one morning, and it wasn't until I was going through our pantry pre-Easter that I noticed that this box had recipes on the back for TONS of other goodies- not just pancakes.  With this box alone, you can make pancakes, scones, chocolate chip cookies, or biscuits.  While that doesn't make me feel great about serving pancakes for breakfast (it's just a modified form of a cookie apparently?!) it is nice to have that much variety in one little box.

:: Trader Joe's Cheeses ::
This picture is a little deceiving because it is meant to showcase that TJ's has a great selection of a variety of cheeses.  Their fresh ricotta is delicious, as is the goat cheese and brie.  I love the price point and they have a wonderful selection.  Make sure to stop by and browse on your next trip.

Our next city doesn't have a Trader Joe's (but rumors abound that one is coming) so I am relishing my favorite products now.  Do you have any Trader Joe's favorites that I need to try before we move?

thoughts for friday

Happy Friday!  Last weekend was a wonderful recharge for me and it was so needed before this LONG week of projects, meetings, interviews, etc.  Fingers crossed for another recharge weekend full of relaxing, checking things off the list, and CELEBRATING EASTER.

image

As a brief aside, my perspective on Easter tends to get so skewed as a student- I inevitably wind up looking towards exams that are coming up in a few weeks instead of focusing on what I consider to be the most important holiday in my faith.  Let me just say that while I have loved the flexibility that being a student has afforded me, I am super excited to re-join the "real world" and hopefully to focus a little more on the things in life that mean so much more than any test or paper.

With that perspective in mind, here are a few things that have brought a little extra joy this week, that I highly recommend trying, or that I am contemplating trying myself.  I bit of a mixed bag of "friday finds" and "thankful thursday" items if you will.

Dogwoods are BLOOMING in our neighborhood.
Makes those chilly walks so much nicer!

Tried to "recreate" the feeling of vacation with a little french patisserie visit in Raleigh.
My croissant didn't come with a view, but it was still a delicious mid-week pick me up.

I LOVE these blue earrings and am contemplating them as a treat for myself.
Thanks to the ever stylish Lauren T for introducing them to me!

New workout tanks that wick but aren't too tight.
Why didn't someone think of this sooner?!

Delicious...no DELICIOUS rosemary sea salt bread.
Run to Fresh Market and grab some...it has made an appearance with most meals this week!

Happy Weekend everyone!  I hope it's a wonderful, relaxing time to focus on what matters most to you.

friday find: summer shoes

Three cheers for Friday!!  Before I go any further, a HUGE shout out to my beautiful sister Rebecca- she just booked a national Dairy Queen Commercial!  She has wanted to be an actress for as long as I can remember, and she has shown so much dedication through auditions, acting classes, more auditions, etc.  She got the call yesterday and we could not be more proud.  Love you chicken little.

For today's finds, I am excited to share a "spend or save" edition about summer shoes.  Just looking at these shoes makes me want to shed some layers, get a pedicure (maybe with a bright color like this), and soak up some sunshine.  I even added a closed toe option you might be able to sneak into work this summer (depending on your office's formality.)

While I will say that I usually advocate for buying nice shoes (support, comfort, avoiding knee/hip/back pain, etc.), when it comes to summer shoes that you will likely slip off poolside, I am much more inclined to SAVE.  My one exception might be this pair of TBs...just can't seem to say no!  Any other great summer shoe finds I should know about?

friday find: chesterNYC

Happy Friday!  I am so excited to share my "friday find" with you today... chesterNYC!

chesterNYC

When I worked in Charlotte, I was lucky enough to meet Mimi Kennedy Harris.  Mimi is bright and energetic and always had the BEST statement necklaces.  Recently, Mimi moved to New York and launched her new line of statement jewelry, chesterNYC.  In just a short time, Mimi has developed quite a following and counts Kelly Ripa as one of her fans.

Mimi creates custom pieces by mixing different colors, textures, and materials.  Recently, I was lucky enough to win this custom necklace from chesterNYC and I LOVE IT!  It is perfect for work, for going out to dinner, or just to dress up a casual weekend outfit.

Just in case you need any more inspiration, check out these other great pieces I love.  Have a fabulous friday and be sure to check out chesterNYC!

hot pink pants

Happy Friday! Spring must be in the air because all I can think about are BRIGHT colors.  Right now I am loving hot pink pants.  While the color is bright, and may be off-putting for some, I think it is a fun color that can bring an outfit to life and be styled for different occasions.  Here are a few of my favorite ways to wear a pair of bright pants:

top /wool blazer /pants / heels / jewelry

sweater / pants / shoes / necklace /sunglasses

chambray top / jacket / pants / shoes / sunglasses

What do you think?  Hot pink for Spring?!
